Shin-Tsunashima MICCA commercial complex opens in Yokohama

A new commercial complex named Shin-Tsunashima MICCA officially opened on October 28, 2026, in Kohoku Ward, Yokohama. Developed by Tokyu Corporation, Sumitomo Forestry, and the Re-Architecture Research Institute, the facility integrates historical preservation with modern wooden architecture.

The complex consists of three buildings: “OMOYA,” a renovated 170-year-old traditional Japanese house (the former Ikeya family residence built in 1857), and two new two-story wooden structures named “HANARE South” and “HANARE North.” The OMOYA building features a bakery-bistro and a bagel specialty shop, maintaining historical elements like original pillars and a traditional cooking hearth while incorporating modern seismic reinforcement and barrier-free access.

The HANARE buildings house various tenants. HANARE South focuses on dining, including a seafood tavern and fish specialty shop, a pastry shop, and a smash burger restaurant. HANARE North provides daily convenience with tenants such as a drugstore, a tonkatsu specialty shop, and various casual dining chains.

Designed to bridge the gap between the area's history and new urban developments near Shin-Tsunashima Station, the project emphasizes environmental sustainability. The new wooden structures utilized approximately 829.1 cubic meters of timber, reducing embodied carbon by about 34% compared to similar steel-frame buildings.
