Shinagawa Station to host unmanned cashless pop-up store

TOUCH TO GO, Hibiya Kadan, and JR East Japan Commerce will launch an unmanned cashless pop-up store at JR Shinagawa Station from October 13 to October 18. The initiative serves as a demonstration experiment to address labor shortages and reduce operational burdens in the retail industry.

Utilizing the “TTG-SENSE” system, which uses ceiling cameras and shelf sensors to recognize products in real-time without barcodes, the store will offer items previously difficult to sell in unmanned formats, such as fresh flowers. Other products include railway goods and character merchandise. The experiment aims to test the potential of using idle station spaces for new commercial opportunities and to collect data on consumer movement and purchasing behavior.
