SHINING 3D expands 3D scanning capabilities for industrial and motorsport applications
SHINING 3D has expanded its professional 3D digitization portfolio with the EinScan Trak, a system combining optical tracking and a portable laser scanner. The hardware is designed to handle both large-scale objects and fine details. A key feature is the ability to work without applying markers to most objects, utilizing wireless connectivity between the scanner, tracker, and computer to reduce cables during the scanning of vehicles, machinery, or sculptures.
The system offers two localization strategies. For large surfaces, the scanner is housed within a spherical structure monitored by an optical tracker to determine position and orientation. For accessing tight spaces or small components, the scanner can be removed from the structure to be used as a standalone handheld device.
In the motorsport industry, the team Black Falcon is utilizing SHINING 3D technology, specifically the FreeScan Trak Nova, to enhance technical processes. The captured geometric data supports vehicle measurement, inspection, reverse engineering, and simulation. This digital workflow allows engineers to digitize components like body structures and aerodynamic parts directly, bypassing the need for manual CAD modeling. The technology was notably used to geometrically verify repaired areas on a vehicle following damage during the Nürburgring 24 Hours race.
