Shinsegae and Jeonnam Gwangju partner for biodiversity conservation
Jeonnam Gwangju Special City and Shinsegae have signed a business agreement to promote biodiversity conservation and regional coexistence, specifically focusing on the Gangjin Bay and Tamjin River downstream areas.
Over the next two years, Shinsegae will provide 200 million won to support the creation of biological habitats and the restoration of damaged areas, particularly to protect migratory birds such as whooper swans. The initiative involves a collaborative model where Shinsegae provides funding and environmental cleanup, local residents provide fallow farmland as habitats, and civic groups conduct ecological monitoring. The city will provide administrative support to ensure the project's stability.
In addition to environmental efforts, the partnership aims to expand sales channels for local eco-friendly agricultural and fishery products through Shinsegae's distribution networks. This cooperation occurs alongside the ongoing ‘The Great Gwangju’ project, a large-scale urban development involving the Gwangcheon Terminal, which Shinsegae plans to complete by 2033.
