Ship captain dies after sudden illness at Goiânia restaurant
Iran Peixoto Martins Costa, a 39-year-old merchant marine captain, died after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest at a restaurant in the Flamboyant Shopping mall in Goiânia on Sunday, October 27.
While dining with friends, Costa began feeling unwell before his meal started. Immediate first aid was provided by a nurse, a medical student, and establishment staff present at the scene. Emergency responders from the SAMU, Fire Department, and Unimed also performed resuscitation attempts for approximately one hour, but he could not be revived.
The exact cause of the sudden cardiac arrest remains unknown. His body was sent to the Death Verification Service (SVO) for investigation. A wake was scheduled for Monday at the Vale do Cerrado Cemetery, with burial set for the afternoon.
