Shipbuilding industry advances through modernization and automation

The maritime industry is seeing significant technological shifts as major shipyards implement modernization and automation strategies.

In Spain, Nuevo Astillero de Huelva is progressing with an investment plan to modernize its facilities, incorporate new manufacturing technologies, and upgrade industrial services. Representatives from SOERMAR recently visited the shipyard to review these planned improvements, which include upgrading lifting and industrial transport equipment, to enhance the facility's competitiveness and productive capacity.

Meanwhile, Fincantieri is accelerating its transformation through the ‘Boost2-El Astillero del Futuro’ program. This initiative integrates advanced robotics, physical artificial intelligence, and next-generation automation systems into production processes. The program, which has involved over 450 employees across 13 shipyards in Italy, Romania, and the United States, aims to transition technological innovation into large-scale industrial application to improve efficiency and safety.
