Shipstern Bluff featured in new surfing documentary Stern Fever

The new surfing documentary ‘Stern Fever’, produced and directed by Talon Clemow, is set to premiere in Sydney on October 8 before an international release. The film focuses on Shipstern Bluff, a notorious wave located on the southern edge of Tasmania.

Featured surfers include two-time Surfing Australia Heavy Water Award winner Russell Bierke, alongside prominent figures such as Kelly Slater, Stephanie Gilmore, Joel Parkinson, and Mark Mathews. The documentary chronicles the wave's evolution from a local secret to a global surfing destination and captures extreme wipeouts.

Bierke described Shipstern Bluff as a unique challenge due to its ‘mutations’ in the wave face, caused by underwater rocks that create secondary breaking waves. He noted the appeal of surfing in the surrounding wilderness and the predictable yet ever-changing nature of the swell.
