Shiran Basik: Sri Lankan police probe assets and criminal network
Sri Lankan authorities have launched extensive investigations into the assets and criminal network of Shiran Basik following his deportation from the United Arab Emirates. Basik, a 48-year-old resident of Dehiwela, is facing allegations of drug trafficking, firearms offences, and the accumulation of wealth through organized crime.
Police are currently scrutinizing properties in Wellawatte, Boralesgamuwa, and Dehiwela, and are verifying claims that Basik owns five hotels along Colombo’s Marine Drive. Law enforcement has requested Interpol assistance to identify and secure assets allegedly held by Basik in the UAE and other international locations.
Basik was reportedly arrested in the UAE after Iranian military drone and missile footage was discovered on his mobile phone. He was returned to Sri Lanka via Abu Dhabi and is currently being held for questioning.
In a broader crackdown on organized crime, Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya announced that the country is working to extradite nearly 100 suspects living abroad, including 73 individuals wanted under international Red Notices for drug trafficking and underworld activities.
