Shiranthi Rajapaksa to be questioned over CT scanner funds

The Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) is set to question former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa regarding a Rs. 10 million deposit into the Siriliya Saviya account, which she headed.

The investigation focuses on the alleged misuse of funds originally collected to purchase a CT scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo. However, it was later revealed that the scanner was donated to the hospital free of charge by the Chinese government.

Authorities are investigating the purpose of the Rs. 10 million transferred from the National Savings Bank to the Siriliya Saviya accounts at the Maradana and Suduwella branches. While Rajapaksa was scheduled for questioning, she was reportedly unwell, though she had previously undergone more than four hours of questioning on February 3 regarding the account. Bank officials and former board members have already been questioned as part of the ongoing probe.
