Shiraz emerges as regional medical tourism hub generating $25 million annually

Shiraz is emerging as a significant regional hub for medical tourism, generating approximately $25 million in foreign currency annually. The city's medical sector is supported by decades of medical education, specialized physicians, and well-equipped treatment centers.

Medical tourists contribute to the local economy not only through healthcare services but also through spending on accommodation and transportation. On average, each medical tourist brings in over $3,000. Currently, about 30 percent of patients visiting Shiraz medical centers come from other provinces within Iran.

Plans are underway to develop the Shiraz International Health City to integrate medical, residential, and investment capacities. Officials aim to expand this capacity to reach $50 million in annual foreign currency earnings by strengthening infrastructure, international communications, and global branding.
