Shirine Boukli wins bronze at Judo World Championships in Baku
French judoka Shirine Boukli secured a bronze medal in the -48 kg category at the World Judo Championships in Baku. This marks the second world medal of her career, following her silver medal in Doha in 2023.
During the competition, Boukli faced a setback in the quarterfinals when she was disqualified via hansoku-make after accumulating three penalties against Russia's Marina Vorobeva. However, she recovered in the repechage round, defeating Brazil's Clarice Ribeiro with a waza-ari.
In the bronze medal match, Boukli defeated Mongolia's Baasankhuu Bavuudorj, a 2024 world champion and Olympic silver medalist, winning on penalties during extra time. Boukli expressed pride in her performance, noting that the medal concludes a successful season that included titles at the Paris Grand Slam and the European Championships.
