Shiromani Akali Dal supports Women's Reservation and delimitation

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced its support for the Women's Reservation Bill and the delimitation process, stating these measures serve the public interest and will contribute to the peace and prosperity of Punjab. SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal emphasized that the party's stance is rooted in the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, which champion gender equality.

In response, the Punjab Congress has criticized the shift in SAD's position, accusing the party of political opportunism. Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring suggested the decision was an attempt by SAD to seek an electoral alliance with the BJP ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Additionally, Congress MP Manish Tewari expressed opposition to the delimitation exercise, arguing it could negatively impact the political representation of North, South, and Northeast India by primarily benefiting Central India.
