SHISH intelligence leak concerns raise security questions in Albania

Discussions regarding potential intelligence leaks within the Albanian State Intelligence Service (SHISH) have raised concerns about institutional accountability and national security. The debate centers on whether responsibility for potential misconduct by officials should remain individual or if it reflects failures in the appointment and oversight mechanisms of the institution.

Journalist Basir Çollaku argued that political leaders cannot claim ignorance of subordinates' actions, citing the existence of institutional filters and control structures. A significant concern raised involves the potential exposure of informants and undercover agents to criminal organizations. If sensitive data reaches criminal groups, it could jeopardize the lives of collaborators and compromise domestic and international operations.

Additionally, questions were raised regarding an alleged informative relationship with Ergys Agasi, with calls for documentation to clarify what benefits the institution received from such cooperation. The matter remains a subject for investigation and judicial determination.
