Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre remanded to custody over KDMC hospital assault

A violent incident on July 6 at KDMC's Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli led to the assault of doctors and nurses, sparking outrage among the medical community and a strike demanding stronger security.

Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, identified as the prime accused, was produced before a Kalyan court after brief hospitalization for high blood pressure. The court extended his police custody until July 13 to allow further interrogation.

The victim's family, represented by Dr. Mahendra Baviskar, alleges attempts to shield the accused and has appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for protection of healthcare workers, especially women doctors. Dr. Srishti Baviskar, the assaulted doctor, continues to suffer severe psychological trauma and fears returning to work.
