Shiv Sena workers accused of assaulting Palghar hospital staff
Palghar Police have registered a case against at least 17 individuals, including members of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, following an alleged assault on medical staff at Relief Hospital in Maharashtra.
The incident occurred during the discharge of a ‘Govinda’—a participant in the Dahi Handi festival—who had been injured during celebrations. A dispute erupted when the group was presented with a medical bill totaling Rs 19,866.
According to hospital staff and CCTV footage, the group entered the emergency department and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Allegations include slapping a receptionist, threatening a female employee, and verbally abusing doctors. Staff also reported that the mob removed an IV drip from an injured patient and took him from the facility.
Named in the complaint are Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe, city chief Rahul Gharat, and Rohit Gavit, the son of local MLA Rajendra Gavit. The police have filed charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Medical Services Protection Act.
