Shivamogga man arrested for allegedly shooting stray dog

A man has been arrested in Nadavalli village, Shivamogga district, for allegedly shooting a stray dog dead with an unlicensed firearm. The incident occurred after the stray dog reportedly bit one of the suspect's pet dogs.

The accused, identified as Lingamurthy, allegedly used the weapon following repeated confrontations between the stray animal and his pets. The stray dog sustained gunshot wounds to its back and thigh and died at the scene.

Anandapura police have registered a case against Lingamurthy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and animal cruelty laws. Authorities are currently investigating the source of the firearm and whether the individual possessed a valid license to carry it, noting that discharging a weapon in a residential area poses a significant threat to public safety.
