Shivpal Singh receives 10-year ban for second doping offense
Indian Olympian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh has been handed a 10-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) Disciplinary Panel following a second doping violation. The 31-year-old athlete tested positive for methandienone, a prohibited anabolic steroid.
This marks Singh's second offense. His first violation occurred in 2021 during an out-of-competition test. While NADA initially imposed a four-year ban in 2022, the sentence was later reduced to one year after an appeal panel accepted his claim that the positive result was caused by contaminated supplements.
Singh, a Tokyo 2020 Olympian and 2019 Asian Championships silver medalist, had recently returned to competition, winning medals at the National Games and the National Inter-State Championships in 2023. The new decade-long suspension is expected to effectively end his professional athletics career.
