Shivpal Yadav says Azam Khan will be UP Home Minister if SP wins 2027

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shivpal Singh Yadav has sparked political debate in Uttar Pradesh by stating that jailed veteran leader Azam Khan would be appointed Home Minister if the party wins the 2027 Assembly elections.

Yadav made these remarks following a visit to Khan at the Rampur District Jail. During his press conference, Yadav alleged that Khan is facing harsh conditions in prison, claiming he is being forced to sleep on the floor and lacks adequate access to medicine and clothing. He further accused the government of attempting to ruin the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University.

SP MP Harendra Singh Malik reinforced the party's stance, stating that the Samajwadi Party stands firmly with Khan and that Yadav's comments were an expression of party sentiment. In response, BJP leader Dinesh Pratap Singh dismissed the claims, suggesting that Khan must first address his ongoing legal battles before considering political positions.

Azam Khan is currently incarcerated following a court ruling that increased his sentence to 10 years in a case involving fraudulent PAN cards.
