Shiyazh Pete receives historic support from Navajo Nation fans
Dallas Cowboys undrafted rookie offensive tackle Shiyazh Pete received a significant reception from Navajo Nation fans during a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona. Pete, the first player of Navajo heritage to sign an NFL contract, was met with a standing ovation and a large presence of Navajo Nation flags in the stands.
Following the game, Pete delivered a speech to his teammates in the locker room, emphasizing unity and the bond formed by the team. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer noted the historic nature of the moment, stating he had not seen an entire section of fans cheering for a single player in his 25 years in the NFL. Pete expressed that the experience was “surreal” and “incredible,” noting the strong support for Native American fans within the NFL.
