New research from Muval indicates that the Shoalhaven region offers a coastal lifestyle comparable to Sydney’s Northern Beaches but at a significantly lower cost. The study compared various Australian local government areas across seven lifestyle categories, finding that Shoalhaven matches the Northern Beaches in retail, parks, recreation, entertainment, education, and healthcare.

Key differences identified include transport accessibility; while the Northern Beaches lacks rail stations, Shoalhaven is served by the South Coast line. Economically, the Shoalhaven provides substantial savings. According to the report, average weekly rent in the Shoalhaven is $439, compared to $784 in the Northern Beaches. Additionally, monthly mortgage repayments are estimated to be $2,079 lower in the Shoalhaven, representing an annual saving of approximately $24,948.
