Shohei Ohtani and Dalton Rushing reconcile after on‑field dispute

Tension between Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and rookie catcher Dalton Rushing surfaced during a June game against the Minnesota Twins, when Rushing failed to follow Ohtani’s pitch‑calling and the two appeared visibly upset. Former Angels manager Joe Maddon described the incident as a “bad impression” and suggested a simple meeting among the players and coaches to clear the air.

The dispute seemed resolved in the Dodgers’ subsequent game against the San Diego Padres, when Ohtani was the first player to congratulate Rushing after the catcher hit a home run, signaling that any hard feelings had faded. Rushing later said the pair are “still learning each other’s rhythm” and that the episode was a “learning lesson” for both.
