Shohei Ohtani hits 300th career home run, first Japanese‑born player to reach milestone

Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers hit his 300th career home run as a leadoff shot in the first inning against Colorado Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen. The 409‑foot blast marked his 20th homer of the season, made him the 170th player in MLB history to reach the club, and the first Japanese‑born player to do so. He achieved the mark in 1,102 games, the fifth‑fastest pace ever.

Despite Ohtani’s milestone, the Dodgers surrendered a 4‑3 defeat after two defensive errors by shortstop Miguel Rojas and second baseman Alex Freeland in the eighth inning allowed the Rockies to rally. The loss ended Los Angeles’ 91‑game streak of not needing extra innings.

Ohtani also led all of MLB in All‑Star voting for the first time, topping the ballot with over 3.3 million votes, and will start as the National League designated hitter in the upcoming All‑Star Game.
