Shohei Ohtani's influence drives Dodgers-related tourism economy
The presence of Shohei Ohtani with the Los Angeles Dodgers has generated a specific niche economy, particularly among Japanese fans. The Japanese travel agency JTB, serving as the “official Japanese tourism partner” of the Dodgers, offers specialized tour packages and shuttle services to accommodate fans traveling to see the player.
JTB provides comprehensive packages including game tickets, hotel accommodations, and transportation. Additionally, the agency offers a $85 VIP shuttle service featuring bilingual guides for fans who have arranged their own lodging and tickets. According to Masakazu Nakafuji, general manager of JTB’s New York office, approximately 90% of current shuttle customers are Japanese, though the company aims to expand into English-language markets.
Beyond travel services, the Dodgers also offer an “early entry” add-on for most games, costing between $40 and $70, allowing fans access to the stadium up to three hours before game time.
