Shohei Ohtani sidelined by knee soreness as Dodgers rest him
Shohei Ohtani was held out of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lineup on Thursday because of lingering soreness in his left knee. The two‑way star has not pitched since July 3 and also suffers a right‑biceps issue. He received a lubricating Orthovisc injection during the All‑Star break, and MRI scans showed no structural damage to the knee. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the decision was based on Ohtani’s communication about the discomfort, adding that he could be used as a pinch‑hitter. Team president Andrew Friedman noted there is no structural damage and the club is not rushing his return to the mound. Ohtani continues to serve as the designated hitter, batting .289 with 23 home runs and 65 RBIs in 103 games. The club hopes he can resume pitching later in the season, with Roberts suggesting a possible return to throwing in the coming days.
