Shoko Nakagawa reveals 2023 parotid gland tumor surgery

Japanese entertainer Shoko Nakagawa revealed on Instagram that she underwent surgery for a parotid gland tumor in 2023. She explained that a hard lump under her left ear, which she had ignored for years after being told it was likely fine, eventually grew to over 4 centimeters.

Nakagawa shared that the tumor had significantly involved the nerves responsible for facial movement, leading doctors to warn her of an over 80% chance of permanent facial paralysis. Despite fears regarding her singing career and upcoming marriage, she proceeded with the surgery. She expressed immense relief upon discovering the tumor was not malignant and that she had suffered no paralysis or aftereffects.

Reflecting on her journey, Nakagawa noted that she had made a promise to her surgeon to sing at a large party three years after the procedure. Now a mother of twins, she fulfilled that promise and expressed gratitude for her health. She also used her platform to urge others not to ignore small physical changes and to seek professional medical consultation immediately.
