Batajnica dog shelter shooting leaves director wounded, attacker arrested

A shooting erupted around 09:40 on a morning in the dog shelter located in Batajnica, a suburb of Belgrade, Serbia. The shelter’s director, Dragan Ć. (53), was hit in the leg but managed to wrest the gun from the suspected attacker, A. S. (51). After losing his firearm, the assailant seized a nearby axe and advanced toward a shelter worker, Radenko R. (64), who escaped injury but suffered severe stress.

Police and forensic teams arrived promptly, securing the scene and placing the suspect under guard in a police vehicle. Dragan Ć. was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment, while Radenko R. was examined and released unharmed. The motive remains unclear, though investigators suspect a personal dispute between the attacker and the shelter’s management. The investigation continues.
