Cabo 2° Cristopher Andrés Aguilera Fernández, a 30-year-old officer of the Carabineros de Chile, died after being shot in the head during a routine identity check in the Las Dunas sector of Lo Espejo. The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon while officers from the 42nd Patrol Station were conducting preventive inspections of a group of people.

The attacker, identified as Brayan Farías Díaz, a 28-year-old Venezuelan national in an irregular migratory situation with a prior criminal record, reportedly fired approximately 20 shots using a weapon equipped with an extended magazine. In the ensuing exchange, a fellow officer returned fire, killing the assailant at the scene.

Following the shooting, Aguilera was airlifted to Clínica Las Condes, where he succumbed to his injuries at 21:48 hours. The officer, a father of a 10-month-old child, had served in the institution for over eight years and had received numerous professional commendations.

President José Antonio Kast condemned the attack as “cowardly” and called on Congress to accelerate the security and immigration agenda. The incident has prompted a massive police operation and intensified national debate regarding public safety and the management of irregular migration.
