Brazilian e-commerce intensifies as Shopee launches rapid delivery

The Brazilian e-commerce landscape is experiencing significant shifts in logistics and consumer preferences. Shopee has launched ‘Turbo’, a new delivery modality promising orders within four hours, primarily serving the Greater São Paulo area. This move intensifies competition with Mercado Livre, which has expanded same-day deliveries, and Amazon, which is developing ultra-fast delivery options.

Market research from YouGov indicates that Shopee leads in recent purchase frequency, with 55.4% of consumers reporting purchases in the last three months, followed by Mercado Livre at 48.4%. However, Mercado Livre holds a slight edge in brand recommendation, with 58.7% of respondents willing to recommend it to others, compared to Shopee’s 58.4%.

Logistical trends also show a surge in activity outside major capitals. Data from Loggi’s Logistics Map reveals a 194% increase in package shipments from companies based in capitals to interior cities. Additionally, shipments from businesses already located in the interior have grown by 80%, highlighting the emergence of regional hubs like Uberlândia, Londrina, and Joinville.
