Short-circuit of power lines sparks major fire in Boeotia and Attica, Greece

An investigation by the Greek Fire Service and the Directorate for Investigation of Arson Crimes concluded that contact between two high‑voltage transmission cables caused sparks that ignited dry vegetation, leading to a large and destructive fire in the Boeotia region and parts of Attica. Photographs taken at the origin show melted aluminum sheaths and arc marks consistent with a short‑circuit, while strong winds are reported to have moved the cables into contact.

The technical findings formed the basis for criminal proceedings, resulting in the arrest of two suspects linked to the incident. The seized cables were entered into the case file as evidence, underscoring the role of the fire‑crime unit in addressing the blaze.
