Short film ‘Poronga’ wins award at Olhar do Norte Festival
The short film ‘Poronga’, directed by Rafael Rogante, has won the Itaú Cultural Play Award at the 8th edition of the Olhar do Norte – Festival de Cinema da Amazônia in Manaus. The 16-minute suspense film follows two rubber tappers struggling for survival in the Amazon rainforest, utilizing music and visual framing rather than traditional dialogue to explore themes of fear, religiosity, and oppression.
As part of a partnership with Itaú Cultural Play, 32 films selected from the festival will be made available on the platform between September 28 and October 12. The festival, held from September 23 to 27, showcases productions from seven Brazilian states, highlighting various perspectives and genres related to the Amazon territory.
