Short-seller positions decline in German tech stocks Carl Zeiss Meditec and LPKF

In Germany, hedge funds have reduced short positions in two prominent technology companies. AHL Partners LLP cut its net short stake in Carl Zeiss Meditec AG from 0.54 % to 0.49 %, slipping below the 0.5 % reporting threshold, while AQR Capital Management retains the largest short position at 0.89 %. The shares rallied modestly, trading around €25.06 with a 0.97 % gain.

Similarly, Voleon Capital Management LP lowered its net short exposure in LPKF Laser & Electronics from 1.99 % to 1.87 %, though it remains the biggest short seller. Qube Research & Technologies Ltd holds a 0.82 % short position. LPKF’s stock surged to €21.20, up 13.37 % on the day. Analysts note that reductions by major short sellers can signal easing negative sentiment and may add buying pressure, but they do not necessarily imply a bullish outlook.

Both developments highlight how changes in institutional short‑selling activity are closely watched for clues about market expectations regarding German high‑tech equities.
