Shota Imanaga views postseason as a reward after Cubs Wild Card loss
Following a heavy loss in the first game of the Wild Card Series against the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs players Shota Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki expressed a resilient mindset heading into the decisive second game.
Imanaga, who led the team with 11 wins this season, described the opportunity to play in the postseason as a “reward” rather than a source of pressure. Reflecting on his previous postseason experiences, he stated that he intends to approach the upcoming games with confidence, focusing on performing necessary tasks regardless of statistical noise.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Imanaga will pitch during the series, though he remained uncertain whether he would serve as a starter or a reliever. Counsell emphasized that the priority is simply finding ways to secure 27 outs.
Teammate Seiya Suzuki also maintained a composed outlook, noting that the team must capitalize on small opportunities in what will be a high-stakes, narrow margin matchup.
