Shotcut releases version 26.9 with audio ducking and security fixes
The free and open-source video editor Shotcut has released version 26.9, introducing several functional enhancements and critical security fixes. A major new feature is Automatic Audio Ducking, which allows users to lower the volume of one audio track when another becomes active, facilitating easier voiceovers and podcast production.
Other notable additions include Adjustment Clips, which act as dummy video clips that apply filters to all video tracks beneath them, and a refreshed user interface featuring rounded corners and a new logo. The software also features improved audio quality by maintaining a 32-bit floating point processing pipeline and enhanced timeline performance for zooming and moving clips.
This update also addresses significant security vulnerabilities related to network downloads. Specifically, it fixes issues where failed HTTPS fetches were retried over cleartext HTTP, certificate errors could be ignored, and upgrade URLs could be accepted from unauthorized hosts. The multimedia framework has also been upgraded to FFmpeg 9.0.
