Shoulder injuries increase during summer sports season

Medical professionals are reporting an increase in shoulder injuries during the summer months as people engage in new physical activities. Dr. Adrián Cuéllar of Quirónsalud notes that many individuals attempt sports such as swimming, paddle surf, padel, or kayaking without having trained the shoulder joint throughout the year.

Common injuries include inflammation, strain, or tears in the tendons, deltoids, or rotator cuff. More severe cases, such as tendinitis, fractures, or clavicle breaks, may require surgery. Older patients are at a higher risk of tendon ruptures due to existing deterioration. Key symptoms to monitor include nocturnal pain, loss of mobility, and general discomfort.
