Shree Charani breaks T20I record as India wins Women’s Asia Cup

Indian left-arm off-spinner Shree Charani set a new record by becoming the first Indian woman to take more than 35 T20I wickets in a single calendar year. She achieved her 36th wicket of 2026 during the ACC Women’s Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium.

Charani’s performance was instrumental in India’s victory, as she claimed a four-wicket haul to help secure the title. Her wickets included Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshi de Silva, Kavisha Dilhari, Hasini Perera, and Sugandika Kumari. The victory marks India’s eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.

In addition to the annual wicket record, the 22-year-old Charani also became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 50 wickets in women’s T20Is, achieving the milestone in just 29 matches, surpassing the previous record held by Kuldeep Yadav.
