Shreveport City Council moves to auction 401 Texas Street building with $850,000 minimum bid

The City of Shreveport is preparing to sell its 60,000‑square‑foot former bank building at 401 Texas Street. The property, built in 1977 and previously used by the city’s Community Development Department, was purchased by the city in 2003 for $750,000. A recent appraisal set the minimum auction bid at $850,000, reflecting its fair market value as of December 2, 2024.

City officials say the building is too large and inefficient for municipal use, prompting a move to the nearby One Texas Centre. The city council must first declare the property surplus and approve the auction measure, which will remain on the agenda for two weeks before a final decision is taken.
