Shreveport felon sentenced to 25 years for firearm crimes

Tommy Pernell Thompson, a 24-year-old from Shreveport, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for firearm-related offenses. The sentence follows his conviction for two counts of attempted possession of a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon, and one count of possession of a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crime Abatement Team. Detectives observed Thompson brandishing an AR-style pistol with a drum magazine during video calls to a sibling at the Caddo Correctional Center in June 2025. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a rifle with a drum magazine and 100 rounds of ammunition. Metadata indicated Thompson acquired the rifle after a 2023 conviction for aggravated assault, which legally prohibited him from possessing firearms.
