Shreveport mayoral election focuses on crime and infrastructure

As the Shreveport mayoral election approaches on November 3, local residents have identified several critical issues facing the city. According to community feedback, top priorities include water, roads, crime, police staffing, jobs, and poverty.

Incumbent Mayor Tom Arceneaux is seeking re-election and is expected to lead the field in what analysts describe as a competitive race. His challengers include Caddo Parish Commissioner John Paul Young (R), Caddo Parish Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts (D), and State Representative Tammy Phelps (D). Other candidates include former commissioner Michael Williams (D), businesswoman Chaunta Mero (D), and businessman Sia Fakhriravari (NP).

Political endorsements have begun to shape the race, with Stormy Gage-Watts receiving support from Caddo Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, while Tammy Phelps has the backing of State Senator Sam Jenkins. The election will be held under the pressure of a tight municipal budget. Early voting is scheduled for October 20-27, with a runoff set for December 12.
