Shreveport officials investigate power outage at Northwood II Apartments

Residents of the Northwood II Apartments in Shreveport, Louisiana, are seeking accountability after electricity was disconnected at the 104-unit complex. Although power has since been restored by Swepco, the outage occurred despite the property being advertised as an “all-bills paid” community, where utility costs are included in the rent.

Shreveport city officials are investigating the cause of the disconnection. Property Standards Director Terrence Green noted issues regarding the complex's occupancy and utility status, while City Council Chairman Tabatha Taylor questioned how residents could lose power after fulfilling their rent obligations. Councilwoman Ursula Bowman highlighted that disconnecting power during extreme heat is illegal in Louisiana when temperatures reach 100 degrees.

In addition to the utility issues, tenants have reported poor living conditions and problems with squatters in vacant units.
