Shreveport population declines as Bossier City grows
Census Bureau data reveals a diverging population trend between Shreveport and Bossier City in Louisiana. Shreveport has experienced a continuous population decline for 15 years, losing more than 11,000 residents over the last five years. As of July 2025, the population of Shreveport stands at 175,902, down from 187,548 in April 2020.
In contrast, Bossier City has seen growth, reaching a population of 63,259 in July 2025, up from 62,715 in April 2020.
Local leaders in Shreveport are exploring economic initiatives to reverse the decline, including proposed data centers and a plan by Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson to revitalize the local film and television production industry.
