Shreyas Iyer's Sister Defends His T20 Captaincy Amid Criticism

India’s T20 side, led by Shreyas Iyer, has yet to register a win under his captaincy, losing the series to Ireland and falling 0‑2 to England after three matches. Iyer has scored 123 runs in five innings at an average of 24.60, prompting critics to question his leadership.

His sister, Shresta Iyer, appeared in England to back him, urging fans to judge his captaincy beyond the scoreboard. She said, "People see the success today, but very few know what it took to get here. Very few know the sacrifices, the struggles, the disappointments, and the battles you fought quietly within yourself." She also compared Iyer’s situation to past Indian captains, noting that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar all faced lean phases. "Wait and watch. I know he has that in him," she added.

Shresta further expressed personal protectiveness, stating she is “very possessive about my brother” and hopes he will seek her opinion on personal matters. The fourth T20I is scheduled for July 9 at Bristol’s County Ground, with the final on July 11 in Southampton, followed by a three‑match ODI series starting July 14.
