Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University expands academic programmes and infrastructure
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, acting as Chancellor, chaired the 37th Executive Council meeting of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) in Katra. During the meeting, the council granted in-principle approval for the introduction of two new academic programmes: B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Tech in Food Technology.
To support campus infrastructure, the council approved a 200-bed boys’ hostel, which is to be funded by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB). Additionally, the council approved the development of a sports complex in collaboration with the SMVDSB and adopted the university’s budget proposals for 2026-27.
During the university’s 23rd Foundation Day celebrations, Sinha also highlighted SMVDU’s achievements in research and innovation. He noted that the institution has secured approximately 140 research projects, received 14 patents, and incubated 30 start-ups. He encouraged the university to further strengthen industry-academia relations and leverage national research funds to drive future growth.
