Shropshire Council deploys 24-hour patrols amid flood warnings

Shropshire Council has implemented 24-hour highways patrols following yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms issued by the Met Office. The measures are intended to manage potential flooding and road disruptions caused by heavy rain.

Highways teams, including in-house drainage crews and contractors Kier and Multevo, are monitoring known flood-prone locations and clearing drainage assets to prevent runoff from overwhelming the road network. The council is prepared to establish an incident room with Kier if a full-scale response becomes necessary.

Authorities advise motorists to travel with care and strictly avoid driving through floodwater. While the council cannot deliver sandbags to individual properties, they are available for public collection at highway depots. Residents can report flooding via the council website or the Fix My Street app, though life-threatening emergencies should be directed to 999.
