Shropshire Council refurbishes Theatre Severn, adding 10% more seats
Refurbishment work began on Monday 20 July at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, funded from Shropshire Council’s capital budget. The project replaces seating and carpeting and redesigns the main auditorium to raise capacity from 650 to 714 seats – about a 10 % increase – with completion targeted for 5 September ahead of the venue’s first public event.
The council expects the extra seats and improved facilities to boost ticket, food and drink sales, projecting that the investment will pay for itself within three years and help support its wider financial recovery. Deputy leader Alex Wagner said the theatre is a “real success story” that brings people into Shrewsbury and generates important income for the council.
