Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station completes first phase commissioning
The first phase of the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station, which features the world's highest dam at 315 meters, has successfully completed the commissioning of its first three generating units. Located on the Dadu River in Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, the project is a major national energy initiative with a total investment exceeding 36 billion yuan.
The station has a total installed capacity of 2 million kilowatts, utilizing four 500,000-kilowatt mixed-flow water turbine units. Once all units are operational, the station is expected to produce an average annual output of approximately 7.7 billion kilowatt-hours. This project is designed to improve water resource utilization efficiency across the Dadu River basin, potentially adding 6.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually to downstream cascade power stations.
Beyond power generation, the dam serves critical functions in flood control and water resource allocation. Environmentally, the station is projected to replace 2.96 million tons of coal annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 7.18 million tons. The rapid commissioning of these units has also helped stabilize the power supply for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle during high-temperature periods.
