Shubhendu Adhikari pledges corruption crackdown in GTA and warns against anti-national slogans

West Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has announced a crackdown on corruption within the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). During an administrative meeting, the Chief Minister pledged to investigate alleged embezzlement involving teacher recruitment processes, the ‘Amrit’ drinking water project, and funds previously allocated to 11 development boards. He stated that a committee led by retired Judge Biswajit Basu will conduct an inquiry, asserting that those who loot government funds will be arrested and held financially accountable.

To accelerate regional development, the Chief Minister announced that the GTA budget has been doubled. He also revealed plans to establish a new medical college in Kalimpong, for which financial approval processes have been initiated. Following the resignation of the GTA chairman and several members, IAS officer Smritiranjan Mohanty has been appointed as the administrator.

In a separate address during a special session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Adhikari issued a stern warning regarding anti-national slogans at Jadavpur University. He criticized the use of controversial slogans and accused certain forces of brainwashing students. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government would take strict action against anyone working to undermine the unity and integrity of India, stating that the administration would respond firmly to activities that threaten national security.
