Shubman Gill confirmed fit for Test series against Sri Lanka

India's spin bowling coach, Sairaj Bahutule, has confirmed that captain Shubman Gill is fully fit and prepared for the first Test match against Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin on August 15 in Galle.

Gill's absence during the first two days of a warm-up match against a Sri Lankan cricket XI was a precautionary measure following a minor injury to his right ring finger during a practice session. He returned to the crease in the second innings, scoring 44 runs. Bahutule stated, "It was just as a precaution. He is perfectly fine... I think everything went well, the way he batted in the second innings was also wonderful, and he is completely ready for the Test match."

In addition to Gill's fitness, Bahutule noted that the coaching staff is encouraging lower-order bowlers, including Mohammed Siraj and Gurnoor Brar, to contribute with the bat. Furthermore, Devdutt Padikkal has strengthened his position for the playing eleven after an unbeaten 142 in the first innings, following Sai Sudharsan's withdrawal from the series due to a stress reaction in his right big toe.
