Sri Lanka Cricket offers free stadium entry for India Test series
Sri Lanka Cricket announced that spectators can enter the two‑match Test series against India without paying for tickets. Free admission applies to Gate 4 at Galle International Stadium for the first Test (15‑19 August) and to Gates 3, 4, 5 and 7 at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo for the second Test (23‑27 August). The series forms part of the 2025‑27 ICC World Test Championship, with India currently fifth and Sri Lanka sixth in the standings.
India’s preparation has been hampered by injuries. Captain Shubman Gill suffered an impact injury to his right ring finger during a practice session and missed Day 1 of the three‑day warm‑up match at the Nondescripts Cricket Club ground in Colombo, which was reduced from four to three days. Vice‑captain KL Rahul led the side in Gill’s absence. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also out of the series with a left‑knee injury, and several other players are sidelined with various muscle problems.
In the warm‑up game, Sri Lanka XI posted 363/8 on the first day, prompting a challenging target for India. The match highlighted the pitch’s limited assistance for bowlers and the need for Indian batters to adopt a proactive approach against Sri Lankan spin, a point underscored by former India captain Ajinkya Rahane.
