Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also out of the series with a left‑knee injury, and several other players are sidelined with various muscle problems.

In the warm‑up game, Sri Lanka XI posted 363/8 on the first day, prompting a challenging target for India. The match highlighted the pitch’s limited assistance for bowlers and the need for Indian batters to adopt a proactive approach against Sri Lankan spin, a point underscored by former India captain Ajinkya Rahane.
