Shueisha launches Manga Million with 1 million free manga pages in 100 languages

Japanese publisher Shueisha marked its 100th anniversary by launching the digital platform Manga Million on 6 August 2026. The service offers roughly 400 manga titles – including One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Demon Slayer and many shojo series – amounting to about one million pages. Access is free, requires no registration, and is available worldwide until the end of 2027. Translations cover more than 100 languages, with around 300 titles receiving their first official translation and 50 series offered in multiple languages.

The platform’s rollout has drawn attention to its translation process. Shueisha’s editorial team claimed the work was done by human translators, but users identified that translation firms such as Flitto Japan Inc. and EC Innovations, which employ AI‑assisted tools, were involved. Some readers reported awkward phrasing that suggests AI involvement, prompting debate over the accuracy of the publisher’s statements.

Shueisha’s president Hideaki Hayashi and editor‑in‑chief Shuhei Hosono highlighted the project’s goal of breaking language barriers and connecting global readers with Japanese manga culture.
