Shuta Takano strengthens role within Lotte pitching rotation

Shuta Takano of the Chiba Lotte Marines is establishing himself as a versatile asset for the team's pitching rotation. After spending much of the season as a long reliever, Takano utilized time in the farm system to refine his slider, which has since become an effective tool against both left-handed and right-handed batters.

Following his promotion back to the first team, Takano has successfully transitioned into a starting role. He secured his first career starting win on September 1 against the Seibu Lions, pitching seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. He followed this performance with a third win of the season on September 10 against the Rakuten Eagles, allowing only one run over seven innings.

Takano has noted that his pitching approach has shifted from a heavy reliance on forkballs during his time as a reliever to a more balanced mix of fastballs and breaking pitches to navigate longer innings as a starter. He expressed a commitment to being prepared for whichever role the team requires, whether as a starter or a reliever.
